What to Do

Wondering how to have the perfect long weekend in Rhode Island? Here’s what we’d do!

Day One

Iggy’s clam cakes, chowder (white is far superior) and some doughboys (try every sugar combination!) make for the perfect meal. Take it to go so you can eat it at Camp Cronin. Venture out to the end of the rock walk - if you dare!

Enjoy the coastal cruise to school via Ocean Road (wow the houses!), past the Narragansett Seawall and under The Towers. Don’t forget to make a pitstop at Hannah Robinson Tower.

Start at the bottom of URI and make your way past the Ryan Center and Meade Stadium. Stop by the Memorial Union for a picture with the original ram!

The Rhode House was my go to spot in the emporium but has since gone under ): Davo’s Calzones in the next best thing. Be sure to finish dinner with Insomnia Cookies like the true college student you are!

Star spotting on the beach is a must for the weekend, East Matunuck state beach is my favorite in the state.

Start off with a morning at The Fantastic Umbrella Factory (say hi to the emu’s!!) and take a walk at Ninigret state park or Trustom Pond.

Grab lunch at Iggy’s in Point Judith (I prefer the clear chowder) and eat it at Fisherman’s Memorial for a nice beach break.

Head up the coast and take a walk from Scarborough state beach to Black Point Trail. Keep heading North for a chance to people watch on URI quad. Stop by the Welcome Center for a pic with Rhody the Ram!

Grab dinner at IPocket in the emporium (you must get the falafel) and begin finishing the loop with dessert at Brickley’s in Narragansett. Nothing beats a kiddie scoop of raspberry chip in a waffle cone with chocolate sprinkles.

Complete the day with golden hour by the Narragansett town beach. Enjoy a walk along the seawall or just sit and watch the surfers.

Day 2

Enjoy a slow morning! Make your way up to Province for brunch at Plant City and stroll through the Providence Flea Market (only on Sunday’s from 10-3).

Visit the RISD Museum! Then get some exercise in with a walk up the hill to grab another bite to eat on Thayer Street.

Head back for a beer (or just relax) at The Guild’s PVD Beer Garden. Make sure you walk the Mile of History on your way back from the East Side!

Explore Federal Hill for a little while and enjoy an authentic Italian dinner as night comes over the city.

Start your day off exploring the East Side of Providence, in and around RISD and Brown University.

Hometown Cafe and Poké Bar should have a truck at the flea market, or the location is a short drive away. It’s my favorite spot in the area!

Stroll down the Providence River and stop at The Guild’s PVD Beer Garden for a waffle and beverage because, well, how could you not.

From there you can continue through downtown! Fall is the best time of year in Providence and nothing beats a little aimless exploration. Dinner in Federal Hill is always a treat.

Day 3

Start with a smoked salmon bagel at any Providence Bagel location.

Walk the historic loop in Wickford, stop at some antique stores (Corner Cupboard, Wickford Village Antiques are favorites)

Pack a lunch and enjoy Beavertail State Park in Jamestown. Check out Fort Wetherhill state park - can you recreate our engagement pictures on the rocks down by the water?

Pick up Mission Burger in Middletown and eat it at Purgatory Chasm. Digest and enjoy a post dinner walk around downtown Newport!

The forts in Rhode Island always make for a great adventure. I recommend a tour of Fort Adams or, if you’re more of a choose your own adventure type, Fort Wetherhill.

Head into downtown Newport and take Bellevue Avenue to see some incredible mansions from the Gilded Age. Paid tours such as The Breakers can be found or the Cliff Walk awards an exterior look at the mansions and spectacular ocean views.

Be sure to stop by the Audrain Automobile Museum to see some great cars and learn how much Rhode Island is tied to automotive history! The current exhibit is “Collecting Moving Forward.”

Can you guess who’s who?

Do keep in mind that some locations may be closed for the holiday weekend. But the many beaches and trails throughout Rhode Island will be open and free to the public!
